Body Parts Grading

 In Uncategorized

In our last blog about grading, we discussed how mechanical parts are graded. This time, we are going to explain how body parts are graded, as well as other abbreviations and damage indicators. With this guide we hope to help you make more informed buying decisions.

Grading

  • A = If a part has an “A” grade, it has one or less units of damage.
  • B = “B” grades indicate more than one units of damage, but no more than 2 units of damage.
  • C = A “C” grade means that a part has more than two units of damage.

Try and think back to your days in school, and these should be easy to remember! A is the least amount of damage, and C is the most amount of damage.

Damage Unit Type

  • cc = Indicates the size of the unit of damage is similar to the size of a credit card.
  • hrs = This is the approximate hours that the repair takes to fix.
  • Blank = A blank tells you that that damage to the unit is currently unknown.

Abbreviations

AFT = AFT means it is a new aftermarket part, which do not originally come from the car’s manufacturer.

Downgrade = We like to use this system as much as we can, but sometimes there might be damage to a vehicle that doesn’t fit with the grading algorithm. If this is the case, the recycler can choose a lower grade that fits better with the type and size of damage.

Price Abbreviations

  • Actual = This is the “what you see is what you get” price. An actual price is how much the price really costs.
  • Undmg = Undmg stands for “undamaged,” and is the price that the part would be if it wasn’t damaged. This may help you decide whether you want to pay a reduced cost for a damaged part or pay full price for something new.
  • Blank = A blank indicates that it is unknown if the price is the actual or undamaged price.

If you are purchasing any used auto part and are unsure what an abbreviation, code, or grading means, just ask! It’s best if you know the history of the products you buy for your car. Also keep in mind that a lower grade or an aftermarket part doesn’t mean that the product is bad. At Logel’s, we ensure that all of our products are still safe to use before we sell them.
