What Is My Car Worth?
What is my car worth? Here at Logel’s we hear this question all the time. And we have the same, rather frustrating answer: “well, it depends…”. The reason why is because a number of things come into play—but to make things easier let’s break it down into two categories: selling and scrapping.
What is my Car Worth?: Selling your Used Car
You will want to sell your used car for cash if it has reasonable mileage, still runs, is in reasonable condition and still has a Blue Book value. If you’re selling your car, you need to gather all its ‘stats’ (like a baseball player), including: make, model, year, mileage, body style, transmission type, extras (power locks, power windows, leather seats, aluminum wheels, etc) and the general condition of the car. From there go to the Kelley Blue Book site and use your details to find out the ‘blue book’ value. Since the Blue Book isn’t the only determinator, you need to check out local car-sale listings, like Kijiji, Craigslist, Auto Trader, to determine the current value—because what your car is worth can be determined by the current marketplace as well. The more 2009 Ford Focuses on the market at that time, the lower the price. From there you can decide to sell your car, or sell it for scrap.
What is my Car Worth?: Scrapping your Car
There are a number of reasons to sell your car for scrap instead of selling it on the open market—the biggest reason being that you tried to sell it, to no avail. Other reasons would be that it doesn’t run, is in poor condition, has higher-than-average mileage, has one or more accidents in its vehicle history, is extremely high in insurance coverage (high enough to affect its ‘sellability’), it is scratched and/or dented, the interior is ‘rough’, its beyond cleaning, etc.
If your car, for whatever reason, isn’t sellable for a decent price then consider selling it for parts or for scrap. To find out how much your car is worth, for parts and/or scrap—call the parts resale experts here at Logel’s.
