What Is My Recycled Car Made Into?
As Kitchener-Waterloo’s top automotive recycling facility, one of the most common questions we are asked by customers is what their recycled car will be made into. We love sharing the answer to this question because many people can’t believe what new products their recycled car can be turned into. Since at least 84% of a vehicle is recyclable, it’s bound to be turned into some pretty cool things.
New Tires
When your car’s tires are recycled they are used to make numerous new automotive products, one of which is actually new tires. In fact, manufacturers can safely build brand new tires using 10% recycled tire rubber.
Automotive Parts
Recycled materials from your vehicle are also used to make a variety of important automotive parts. Parts such as floor mats, brake pedals, radiator side air baffles, and splash shields are actually made using recycled tire rubber. But rubber isn’t the only material that is reused when cars are recycled; plastics are just as important. What’s really cool is that 10% of all plastic parts used in the MINI Cooper are made up of recycled materials!
Consumer Products
When cars are recycled, their materials are not only put back into new vehicles. A large majority of recycled automotive materials are actually used to create new consumer products. The batteries that we use in everyday products, such as remotes and cameras, are actually made from melted down car metals and playground asphalt is made from shredded tires.
Construction Materials
Many people don’t know that recycled car materials are used to build construction materials, such as rebar. Much of the reinforcing steel that is used in large building projects is made from recycled metals from products such as cars.
As you can see, the life of your car doesn’t stop even when you stop driving it. By bringing your car to our Kitchener-Waterloo automotive recycling facility, you are giving it a second life and making a positive impact on the environment.
