Why Spring is a Good Time to Repair Your Vehicle
Spring is just around the corner, which means it’s time to start thinking about getting your vehicle ready for the warmer months. Apart of making the switch over to your summer or all-season tires, spring is often a good time to make any necessary repairs to your vehicle.
Everyone knows that winter can be tough on your vehicle, and it’s not uncommon to accumulate some minor damages that need to be repaired when the weather is nice. In fact, many people start to hear little clunks or other noises when they start driving with the windows down.
One of the most common issues you may notice on your car in the spring is rust. Depending on the salt that your city uses to de-ice the roads, it can cause rusting on exposed parts of your car. The earlier you catch this the better, as it is often a quick fix if the rust is minimal.
It’s also a good idea to take a look at your suspension system and wheel alignment after the roads begin to clear of snow. The freezing and thawing that roads go through during the winter and spring can cause large potholes that can cause damage to your vehicle if they are hit. This damage is most often to your vehicle’s suspension and wheel alignment, and it can negatively impact your vehicle’s handling and reduce the lifespan of your tires.
A third important part of your vehicle you should inspect this spring is your windshield wipers. They are put through a lot during the colder months, which may impact their performance. With spring’s rainy weather, you want to make sure you are able to see the road safely so windshield wipers should be replaced if the rubber is even slightly worn or brittle.
If you think it’s time to do a full once-over of your vehicle, we recommend following the Vehicle Maintenance Checklist by CAA. If you have any questions about your spring car maintenance or anything else, give our Kitchener-Waterloo Auto Shop a call.
