Kitchener Auto Shop’s Convertible Safety Tips
Warm summer months are just around the corner, which means that many convertible owners are going to be getting their cars ready for the season. Whether this is your first, fifth, or fiftieth season driving a convertible, be sure to review these safety tips before hitting the road.
Tip #1: Don’t Leave Valuables in the Car
Driving a convertible means that you don’t have the option to lock your valuables in the car while you’re out. Instead, plan ahead and either leave them at home or be prepared to carry them around with your while you’re out.
Tip #2: Know How and When to Raise and Lower the Roof
For new convertible drivers, figuring out how to properly raise and lower the roof can be a daunting task. Before you begin using your convertible this season, review how to correctly raise and lower your roof. It’s almost important to note that the roof should never be moved while the vehicle is in motion.
Tip #3: Don’t use Windshield Wiper Fluid if the Top is Down
Unless you want to be showered with used windshield wiper fluid, refrain from using it when the top is down.
Tip #4: Protect Your Ears
Driving in convertibles, especially at higher speeds can be hard on your ears. This is why it’s recommended to avoid driving with the top down at high speeds, instead sticking to quieter residential areas. If passengers find the noise particularly difficult to deal with, keeping a pair of earplugs in the car can be helpful.
Tip #5: Be Aware of Blind Spots
With the top up, most convertibles have very small rear windows. This can become a problem while driving as large blind spots mean you won’t be seeing the full road. To overcome this, installing blind-spot warning systems or rearview camera is a good idea.
By reviewing these five safety tips before you hit the road in your convertible this summer you’ll be sure that all the memories made in the car are positive ones.
