Mechanical Parts Grading
If you’ve seen letter grading on a mechanical car parts and wondered what exactly they meant, continue reading. Parts are graded as A, B, or C, and the letters represent the amount of usage or damage on a mechanical part. Here is a guideline for understanding letter grading.
A – This letter can mean two different things:
1. Less than or equal to 60k miles total, or
2. Greater than 60k miles but less than or equal to 200k miles, and less than or equal to 15k miles per year
B – Greater than 60k miles total and less than or equal to 200k miles, but greater than 15k miles per year
C – Greater than 200k miles total
The term “downgrade” is used when a recycler chooses to lower the grade of the part based on damage not reflected in the grading algorithm. For example, a vehicle could have been in a collision and received damage that was not related to the mileage on the car.
This grading system exists so that customers know the quality of the product they are purchasing. Keep in mind that products rated “B” or “C” are still usable, they have just been used more. We don’t sell anything to our customers that is unsafe. All products have to be in working condition before they are entered into our inventory listing.
