DIY Projects: How YOU can recycle parts of your car

In Engines & Transmissions, Rims & Tires, Used Auto Parts

Whether you have an old, unused car sitting in your garage or you just want some car-themed decor, there are many different ways for you to recycle your car parts to make them useful again. Here are a few ideas for DIY projects:

Car Engine BBQ
Do you love barbeques? What about cars? Use the car engine that has been dormant for too long to make your own car engine BBQ! This is functional and you can have fun showing it off in the summer, but you will need some technical skill to be able to complete this project. Get some inspiration here.

Seatbelt Belt
This is something that is actually sold in stores for a decent amount of money, but why buy one when you can make it yourself for a fraction of the cost? You can customize this seatbelt to fit you just right, and it doesn’t take that much skill or time to make. This website has a good tutorial for you to follow.

Car Pool Table
For anyone feeling a bit more adventurous, try making a pool table out of an old car. Curious to see what that would look like? Here is an example. This would be a great conversation starter, and is a bonus for people who have always wanted a pool table. Making a car pool table would be a fun project for anyone who finds spending time on larger projects rewarding.

Art
If there is a car part that you like the look of or that has a sentimental value, just hang it up as art, or put a few parts together to make a sculpture. This type of project will need a little imagination and creativity because there are so many different ways it can be done. You may want to do this yourself, or make it a family project.

Clocks
You can turn virtually anything round into a clock, such as a gear or the rim of a tire. You can get a cheap clock and attach the battery pack and hands to any car part that resembles a circle, and use spray paint to make the clock any colour that you want. This project could take as little as a couple hours and looks really cool.

There are car themed DIYs for everyone, from mechanics to newbie crafters. Hopefully this list inspired you to look at your old car parts in a new way and that you can turn your old car parts into something new. If you make anything with old car parts, from this list or not, share them on our Facebook page, we would love to see them!
