Tips to Get Your Car Ready for Fall

As much as we hate to see the summer go, there’s something magical about the fall season! The crisp, cozy weather and gorgeous foliage make it one of our favourite seasons. With the change in seasons comes a change in driving conditions, so try some of these tips to get your car ready for fall driving.

Check Your Tires & Brakes

Each new season should be a reminder to check your tires and brakes for wear. While the snow is (hopefully) still a few months away, it’s important to make sure your tires are equipped for driving on slick, wet roads covered with fallen leaves. Make sure your tire pressure is good and get your brakes inspected so you have peace of mind.

Check Your Lights

The fall season brings us shorter days, and for many of us, it means driving more often in darker conditions. Make sure your lights are in good working order, including headlights, taillights, parking lights, brake lights and emergency lights. Replace any bulbs that are broken and clean the lights to ensure that other motorists can see them.

Check Your Heater & Defroster

With the fall season comes colder mornings, and it won’t be long before you need your heater and defroster. Before the cold weather hits, make sure your heater is working so you can stay warm this season. Check your defroster so you avoid the dangers of driving with fogged-up windows. Be sure to get your heater or defroster repaired if necessary.

Check the Battery

Your battery may have worked fine in the summer, but colder weather can impact its performance. Make sure your battery is fully charged and consider having a professional inspection to find out if it needs to be replaced. Check the outside of your car battery for signs of corrosion or loose connections.

Check Fluids

Your car runs on a lot of fluids, so make sure they’re all full and ready to go for the new season. Check oil, coolant, washer fluid, transmission, brake fluid and power fluid levels and have them filled if necessary.
