Ontario Scrap Metal Prices for Your Car

 In Auto Recycling

Scrap metal prices will change on a day-to-day basis. When you bring your scrap car to be recycled at Logel’s, the price that you will be quoted for your car will be calculated based on the current market prices.

If your car has little or no value as a trade-in, due to its age or condition, selling your car for scrap metal is a good way to still collect some cash for it — and to recycle your vehicle in the process. At Logel’s, we will use the stock weight of the car so that we can give you a fair price on the spot. You can learn more about our Cash for Scrap Cars program here.

Valuable Scrap Metals in Your Car

Many car owners don’t realize how valuable even junk cars can be. All cars contain valuable metals that can be recycled and reused in the manufacturing process. Just this knowledge can help you make an informed decision about selling your old car. Here are some examples of valuable metals that you’ll find in  your car:

Platinum

$20-$30 per gram

Platinum is categorized as a precious metal and is one of the most valuable metals that you’ll find in a car. Many cars will contain between 3-7 grams of platinum in their catalytic converters — although some will contain non-precious metals such as palladium or rhodium instead. Platinum is extremely useful and is considered one of the most high-priced metals in the auto industry. It also has the added benefit that it can be used over and over again without any loss to its value.

Steel & Iron

Prices vary widely, depending on type of metal.

Almost 65% of the metal in your car is some form of steel alloy. Steel is a strong and durable metal with a wide range of uses. It isn’t quite as valuable as platinum, but since your car contains so much steel, it makes up for it in quantity. Most of the body of your car, like the chassis, body, frame, and wheels, contain steel alloys.

Similar to steel, iron can be found in older models of cars for use in the body of the vehicle. It is used less in more modern models, so it is uncommon to find it these days. Iron is also highly durable and can be sold as scrap metal and recycled for a wide range of uses.

Copper

Prices vary widely, depending on type of wire.

Copper is a non-ferrous metal that is valued for its ability to conduct heat and electricity. It is widely used for wiring in machinery and electronics and is found in the car radiator, electrical system, engine parts, and more. Copper is highly sought-after because it is useful across a wide range of industries.

Aluminium

Prices vary widely, depending on type of metal.

Aluminium is a very lightweight and durable metal, which is used in the auto industry as a replacement for the heavier iron. Aluminium reduces pollution levels and the amount of fuel your car uses, and it’s most common in engines, radiators, cylinder heads, pistons, and wheels.

How We Calculate the Value of Your Scrap Car

All of these common scrap metals will be sold by weight, as opposed to by item. As a result, the value of the scrap is determined by what the amount of them in your car.

At Logel’s, we have a detailed database shows what common scrap metals are found in your model of car and how much of each metal your car contains (by weight). We use a simple formula to calculate exactly what your car is worth, based on these figures and the current value of the metals. There is no guesswork involved and every customer who comes into Logel’s Auto Parts gets a quote based on the same type of calculation. It’s a fair and honest way to determine the value of scrap vehicles.
