Spring Cleaning Checklist For Your Vehicle

In Car Care Tips, Spring Driving Tips

It’s no surprise to Canadians that after a long, cold winter, the snow, ice, and salt wreaks havoc on your vehicle. From corrosion to paint or windshield chips to worn out parts, there are a number of things that you want to look out for when spring cleaning your car, truck, or van.

Before you embark on your epic summertime road trip, make sure you’ve checked off the boxes on this list.

The Spring Cleaning Checklist

? Check your fluids

If you have the ability to change your oil and oil filter, spring is a good time to do that. Don’t forget to check your power steering, brake, transmission, windshield, and coolant fluids as well.

? Replace wiper blades

If the salt and ice chipped away at your wiper blades over the winter, consider replacing them. The last thing you want in a summertime rainstorm is to be driving with poor wipers.

? Check the battery

Winter can be hard on your battery, so consider having it tested. Make sure that it’s properly mounted and that the connections are clean. If it’s older than five years, you may want to recycle and replace it.

? Check lighting

Do a 360° inspection of all the lights on your car — especially the exterior lights — and make sure everything is working properly. If your lights are cloudy, give them a good scrubbing.

? Inspect filters

Improve the air in your vehicle by inspecting the engine air filter, the cabin filter, and the fuel filter.

? Check belts & hoses

It’s no surprise that cold weather can harden or damage rubber, so it’s important to check belts and hoses for hardening, softening, leaking, cracks, blistering, and other visual signs of damage.

? Replace worn/damaged tires

Before you put your all-season or summer tires on your vehicle this spring, make sure they’re not too worn or damaged for safe driving.

? Remove salt stains

We wrote a whole blog on how to remove salt stains from the exterior and interior of your vehicle. You can read that blog by clicking here.
